Total Population: 17.8 million
Total Households: 5.7 million

Los Angeles DMA  is the #2 metro area in the U.S. with a population of $17.8 million and total households of 5.8 million.

Covering Los Angeles County, Orange County, Ventura County, Riverside County, and San Bernardino County, Los Angeles DMA is home to almost half of California’s total population. In the next five years, total population is expected to increase by another 1 million.

Los Angeles is the top DMA for the Hispanic population in terms of total population, households and retail sales. 45.4% of the 5-county DMA’s population is Hispanic.

Economy and Consumer Buying Power

  • If the L.A. DMA were a nation, it would be the 18th strongest economy in the world; with a gross product higher than Switzerland, Belgium, South Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc.
  • If the L.A. DMA were a U.S. state, it would rank higher than Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Washington, Michigan, etc.
  • In 2012, Los Angeles’  total consumer expenditure was $318 million, the highest in California and 2nd highest in the U.S.
